Your letter would have been answered long before this, but I have been for some weeks in the French Hospital3 here2, undergoing treatment for a severe injury to my right hand4. I will try to sign this letter, however, when my secretary5 has written it for me. I would be very pleased to have the first copy of your new literary magazine6 dedicated to me, especially because your high school is so splendidly named - The Stonewall Jackson High School. My mother7's four brothers8 were all in the Confederate Army, and Jackson9 and Ashby10 were names that I was brought up on. My father11's people were "Republicans."
I am afraid I am too late to be quoted in your first issue, but this letter will none the less convey my hearty good wishes to you.
Very cordially yours, Willa Cather
