Dear Mr. Knopf1:

Hélas!3 my unfortunate handwriting! I am going to Whale Cove, Grand MANAN N.B.4 So if papers have been sent to Grand Manor5, better send a tracer. I'll be there until Sept. 1st. As I will surely be in New York6 for a few days in the middle of Sept., better hold the de luxe copies7 there for me, I think. The Customs regulations are bothersome at Grand Manan.

I am delighted at your report on advance orders8. I hoped for something between eight and ten thousand advance sale. I am leaving here2 tomorrow and will reach G. M. on Tuesday.

With heartiest greetings W. S. C. Cather

Until Sept 1 c/o Miss Jacobus9 Whale Cove Grand MANAN New Brunswick Canada
