I am sending a line to Miss Jewett3 at
South Berwick4, as she may have left you
by this. But I wish to thank you myself for your kindness in asking me to go down
to
Manchester5, and to tell you how
joyfully I would have gone 'ere this were it not for the fact that Mr. McClure6 is abroad. He left as soon as I came
back and I have been pretty closely tied to the office. But within the next three
weeks I shall go to Boston7, and then,
if I may, I shall telephone you and arrange for an hour when you can see me. You may
be in the city by that time, and if you are not it would be a great pleasure to me
if you could let me run down to Manchester some afternoon for a little visit with
you. So, when I get as far as Boston I shall telephone you and ask you if I may
come. Please do not bother to write about it. And until the day when I ring
ring your telephone bell, please believe me gratefully and
affectionately
