Dear Louise1;

Excuse this picturesque letter paper. This day is the first rainy one—I don't count the gray ones, which I love—in three weeks. I've finished the Archbishop5—all except verifying dates etc. All the interesting work is done, and I miss the old fellow's society. It's always dismal to have an old friend go away or to finish a book. The thing that gave one pleasant excitement for so long is simply gone and done with—like a squeezed lemon. I'll go back to ACCOMODATIONS FOR

Bank street6 the last of the month. Meanwhile I'm turning over a few ideas to see which is more attractive. I've got to have a yarn of some sort to shelter me during the winter. I'll call you up soon after I get back. Is there anything new in the world worth reading? I wish Galsworthy7 wrote letters—such a nice man, why doesn't he? Salute the Whistler8 'Cremorne Gardens'9 for me as you pass by.
