Dear Mr. Hendrick1:

I was abroad when Miss Jewett4 died. I think her sister, Mary Jewett5, is her executor, or executrix. Houghton Mifflin, of course can tell you.

It seems to me you have nothing on me in the matter of "careers"—certainly not. Few books in my time have taken the place both here and in England6 that your Page7 has. It made me very envious of you this summer when my father8 said that to him it was the most important American book published since Grant9’s Memoirs10.

If I am in New York11 at all this winter, and at home on Fridays, I hope you can manage to come down to Bank Street12. With best wishes

Sincerely yours Willa Cather
